Multiple sclerosis: immunologic aspects.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS). Although the causes are not known, the pathogenesis likely involves complex relationships between autoimmunity, immunogenetics, immunologic deficiency and viral infection. The evidence for such interrelationships is discussed.
متن کاملImmunologic Aspects of Myasthenia Gravis0
Clinical and pathologic features of myasthenia gravis suggest a possible autoim mune etiology. Myasthenia is found in association with other putative autoim mune diseases and autoantibodies including anti-muscle antibodies. There is also in vitro evidence for cell-mediated immunity to muscle in blood and thymic cells as well as a suggestion of antigenic disparity between blood and thymic cell...
متن کاملImmunologic aspects of atopic dermatitis.
Atopic dermatitis/eczema is a chronically relapsing, pruritic, and inflammatory skin disease. The term "atopic eczema/dermatitis syndrome" covers the "extrinsic" and "intrinsic" atopic dermatitis. The pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis includes complex interaction between the genetic background, skin barrier defects, abnormalities in innate and adaptive immunity, abnormalities of humoral and cel...

CHEST, 71: 5, MAY, 1977 of tumors of the lung. Lastly, immunotherapy may be of benefit in tumors of the lung, both in the induction of remission when the burden of tumor is small and also in the prolongation of remission following conventional therapy. Each of these methods is being explored in an attempt to provide an increased number of remissions and significant prolongation in the quality o...
متن کاملImmunologic aspects of the biogenesis of erythropoietin.
C ONSIDERABLE EVIDENCE, recently reviewed by Gordon, Cooper and Zanjani,1 supports the concept that erythropoietin ( ESF) , the hormone regulating erythropoiesis, is produced or activated primarily by the kidney. Normal serum, which is incapable of stimulating erythropoiesis in the plethoric mouse, acquires erythropoietic-stimulating activity following incubation with a hypotonic extract of the...
